We wish we could share a treat"Thumbprint cookies with crushed walnuts and blueberry jam" with you in person, but since we can't here is a recipe you can make at home.

Thumbprint Cookies

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg, separated
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped nuts, optional
  • Jelly or jam

 

Step one

Cream together sugar, butter, vanilla and egg yoke. Stir in flour until dough sticks together and is uniform.

Step two

Roll dough into one-inch balls.

Step three

Lightly beat egg white.

Step four

Dip balls of dough into egg whites and then nuts (optional). Place on baking sheet.

Step five

Press a deep indent into the center of each cookie with a thumb, a thimble or a cork. If dough is very soft, refrigerate before baking.

Step six

Bake cookies 10 minutes at 350 degrees, or until light brown. Cool for 30 minutes.

Step seven

Fill indent in each cookie with jam or jelly. Enjoy!
